FAQ: What is pastel media?

Answer: Pastel is a chalk which creates a detailed and soft finish. Painting in this media creates a sense of animation and movement. When I work with pastel, I use Stabilo pastel pencils for the fine detail elements, and Rowney soft pastels. These contain bright pigments and can be easily smudged and blended to create background work.
