Boxer Dog Portraits & Paintings
Boxers are full of presence — strong, athletic dogs with expressive faces and a wonderfully alert, intelligent gaze. There is a natural energy about them, even when they are sitting still, which makes them especially engaging subjects for portrait work.
Their short coats and distinctive markings — from rich brindle striping to warm fawn tones and bold white flashes — allow for subtle colour blending and careful tonal work in pastel. What I always aim to capture, though, is that unmistakable Boxer character: loyal, playful and deeply affectionate.
Boxer Portrait
In this portrait I sought to capture the attentive, slightly inquisitive expression that is so characteristic of Boxers. The soft blending of tones helped to bring out the warmth of the coat, while careful detail around the eyes and muzzle lent the portrait a strong sense of presence. This breed have a wonderful combination of strength and sensitivity in their expression, and I find that conveying this unusual balance can help bring a Boxer portrait to life.
Brindle Boxer Portrait
Henry’s brindle coat gave me a beautiful opportunity to explore the depth and texture of this breed in pastel. Here I built the portrait up slowly over time by adding layers of warm and dark tones to create a rich, lifelike finish.
For Boxer portraits, size is an important consideration. As a larger breed, a slightly bigger artwork helps to do justice to their strong features and presence. For head and shoulders portraits, I usually recommend a minimum size of 16" x 12", with 18" x 14" being ideal.

Fawn Boxer Painting
Fawn Boxers, like Buddy, have a warm, glowing coat that works beautifully in pastel. The subtle transitions between light and shadow help to create a soft, natural finish while still retaining definition around the eyes and muzzle.
Capturing the calm strength and gentle nature of the breed is always an important part of the process.
We are delighted with the portrait as you have managed to capture a true likeness of them… I will highly recommend you to any friends we have who love their dogs as much as we do.

Boxer Puppy Portrait
Boxer puppies have an irresistible charm, with slightly oversized paws, soft features and curious expressions.
In this portrait of Henry, I kept the focus on keeping the tones light and fresh, allowing the softness of the fur and the brightness of the eyes to take centre stage.
