Rough Collie Portraits & Paintings
The Rough Collie is one of the most recognisable and elegant dog breeds, known for its long flowing coat, noble expression and gentle temperament. Their distinctive head shape and beautifully feathered fur make them particularly rewarding subjects to depict in pastel.
Collies often have a calm, thoughtful presence which translates wonderfully into portraiture. Over the years I have created a number of Rough Collie portraits and Collie paintings, carefully studying the textures of their coats and the soft intelligence in their expression so that the finished artwork reflects the character of each individual dog.
This portrait captures the graceful profile and flowing coat that make the Rough Collie such a striking breed. Their long, layered fur contains many subtle tones, from warm golds and creams to darker sable shades, which can be gradually built up in pastel to create depth and softness. The gentle, attentive expression typical of the breed is often what gives a collie portrait its quiet sense of presence.
Miniature Rough Collie Portrait
Some collies have a slightly smaller or finer build, sometimes referred to as miniature Rough Collies. Although smaller in stature, they share the same elegant head shape, expressive eyes and beautiful coat that make the breed so distinctive.
Portraits like this allow the delicate feathering around the ears and neck to be explored in detail, capturing the soft textures that are characteristic of the breed.
