Golden Retrievers are such gentle, expressive dogs, and they make wonderful subjects for portraiture. Over the years I’ve created many golden retriever portraits, each time seeking to capture the individual character, colouring and expression that makes this breed so special.
My golden retriever drawings and paintings are created entirely by hand using soft pastels on archival paper. Working from photographs that you provide, I carefully build layers of colour and texture to recreate the softness of the coat, the warmth of the golden tones, and the thoughtful expression that this breed is known for.

Golden Retriever Art in Soft Pastels
Soft pastels are a beautiful medium for golden retriever art because they allow me to capture both the softness of the fur and the subtle variations in colour that appear throughout the coat. When creating a golden retriever portrait drawing, I pay particular attention to the eyes and expression, as these are often what people recognise first in their own dog.
The aim is not simply to create a likeness, but to portray the dog’s personality as well. Each portrait is drawn individually by hand, and I do not use any digital manipulation or computer processes when creating the artwork..

Working from the owner’s photographs, I focused on capturing Izzy’s gentle expression and soft coat so that the finished golden retriever portrait reflected her true appearance.

Hello and welcome to my website. One of the most rewarding parts of creating a portrait is the process of careful observation. Every dog has its own unique markings, expressions and small details that make it instantly recognisable to the people who love it. When I draw a golden retriever portrait, I spend a great deal of time studying these details so that the finished artwork reflects the individuality of the dog.
