Greyhound Portraits & Paintings
Greyhounds have a unique elegance, with their long, slender forms and gentle, soulful expressions. There is a quiet grace about the breed, whether standing tall or curled up in a favourite resting place, that translates beautifully into portraiture.
Their smooth coats and refined features allow subtle tones and delicate shading to play an important role in both drawings and pastel paintings. Over the years I have created many Greyhound portraits and Greyhound paintings, each carefully developed from photographs to capture both their physical likeness and their calm, affectionate nature.
Red and White Greyhound Portrait
This red and white Greyhound is shown proudly wearing a prize-winning rosette, adding a lovely sense of story and achievement to the portrait. The warm tones of the coat contrast gently with the white markings, while the rosette introduces an extra focal point. Details like these can make a portrait feel especially personal and meaningful.
Greyhound Portrait with Background
Tranquility - it is so good for the human soul to soak in the restful presence of a snoozy 'fur friend'. In this portrait, the owner asked if Skye could be shown resting peacefully on a cosy blanket, capturing the relaxed and affectionate nature Greyhounds are so well known for.
Including elements such as a favourite blanket, chair or setting can help create a more personal composition. Backgrounds can be kept soft and understated or developed further depending on your preference.

Italian Greyhound Portrait
The Italian Greyhound is a smaller and more delicate variation of the breed, with fine features and a graceful, almost sculptural appearance.
In this portrait of Teddy, I created subtle shading and light to define the form of his slender proportions and smooth coat. This helped to lend a refined and elegant feel to the work, reflecting the gentle nature of this breed.

Hi there! Greyhounds are one of my favourite breeds - they have such a calm and gentle presence, and I always enjoy seeking to capture these qualities in my work. There is also a quiet sensitivity in their expression, which requires careful observation to portray accurately.
Over the many years of being a portrait artist, I have created hundreds of pet paintings. However, I always approach each piece individually, taking time to understand the personality of the dog as well as its physical form. My aim is always to create a portrait that feels both natural and full of character.

Commission a Greyhound Portrait
If you would like to commission a Greyhound portrait or Greyhound painting, the process is simple and can be arranged wherever you are in the world.
I work from your photographs and can advise on the most suitable one to achieve the best result. Once the work is near completion, I'll send you an image of the portrait by email for your approval (changes can still be made at this stage). I then post the work out by Royal Mail delivery, which is insured against damage or loss during transit.
